Youngr chats BBC Introducing & learning even more instruments
I first heard Youngr’s music through Greg James’ show on Radio 1 the other night. He was chosen as the ‘BBC Introducing’s Track of the Week‘ and after one listen, I instantly wanted to hear more. After a quick Spotify & Twitter search I came across more of his music, which was equally as good.
His latest single ‘Out Of My System‘ is fantastic and I absolutely love it. Similarly to Jack Garratt, Youngr performs everything live on stage – which includes guitar, drums and more!
Get to know the soon-to-be household name here…
YFM: Hello! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself (for those who don’t know you)?
Y: I am the music man, and I come from far away and I can play!
YFM: How did the name Youngr come around?
Y: It’s my middle name. (No lie!)
YFM: How would you describe your music for someone who has never listened before?
Y: Magical! Summery. Feel good. Melodic. Colloquial.
YFM: How long have you been making music for?
Y: Funny story actually, apparently I used to play rhythms in my mums womb! So I ended up being upside down and had to be cut out. (Sorry mum) So yeah, since the womb I guess.
YFM: Some may say you’re a ‘modern day one-man-band’. How do you even begin to manage all of those instruments?!
Y: Well, it’s only piano, drums, guitar and bass… I wanna learn more! I think I might learn how to play Oboe next. Or clarinet.
YFM: You’ve recently been named as ‘BBC Introducing’s Track of the Week’, with ‘Out Of My System‘. How does it feel to be supported by such a huge channel?
Y: It’s incredible! Crazy! Always listened to Radio 1 coming home from gigs and late night studio sessions etc so it’s amazing to actually be listening to myself. Makes you feel like you’re doing something right!
