Calum Scott chats covering Robyn’s ‘Dancing On My Own‘ and launching his solo career
Calum Scott Interview
YFM: Hi Calum! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself (for those who don’t know you)?
Calum: I auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent in 2015 – my audition has now been seen over 65 million times on YouTube and a year after the show I released the track as a single which flew up the charts, got the attention of an incredible label, Captiol Records who I signed a record deal to and am now making my album with!
YFM: Your cover of ‘Dancing on my Own’ has blown up online! Did you ever expect it to do as well as it has?
Calum: It started as just as a project that I worked on with my friend John McIntyre in a bedroom studio.. Even that video has seen almost 25 million views! I never thought it would be this heavily supported by people that have pushed this single online across the world!
YFM: The video alone has racked over 1.5 millions views on YouTube in two weeks! That’s incredible. Where did the idea for the video come from?
Calum: The concept was put together by an incredible director, Ryan Pallotta who created a vision of an emotionless world and representing the struggle of love and relationships that we have either all experienced or know someone who has. I love how the video completely embodies the meaning and sentiment of the song, perfect combination!
YFM: I recently saw you support Boyce Avenue at the Roundhouse in London. How was that? Any stories you can share from backstage?
Calum: Supporting the boys was incredible, a taste of what I want to do so much in the future, performing up and down the country – it feels amazing! I couldn’t possibly tell you that, what happens on tour, stays on tour!
YFM: What can your fans expect from you from the rest of 2016?
Calum: Continuing to promote my single Dancing On My Own, going over to LA at the end of this week to do some songwriting and a performance at Apple! Got some TV appearances very soon and later in October, I support the amazing Jamie Lawson on his UK Tour!! Plenty to keep busy…
